Your Counsellor is bound by the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) Code of Ethics and will uphold your right to confidentiality. Your safety and privacy will be maintained. However there are some limitations to confidentiality. Counsellors have a legal obligation to protect you and other's safety should a significant risk be determined. This will be outlined in your intake form and during your initial consultation. You can ask your counsellor questions about this at any time. Your counsellor places your right to confidentiality in high regard.
Thought-Full Counselling requires consent from at least one parent/carer/legal guardian to provide counselling services for anyone under the age of 18. In the case that there are two parents/carers/legal guardians, then consent is ideally provided from both parties. Parental involvement will depend on a range of factors; including the child's developmental age, the type of therapeutic treatment that is appropriate for them and how comfortable your child is with sharing information. There are times where it can be beneficial for the child to have parents/carers involvement. As a child progresses into adolescence they may have reservations about parent/carer involvement. Thought-Full Counselling does not wish for this to become a barrier for young people to seek help and ask that parents/carers also respect their child's right to confidentiality. Their counsellor will be guided by the child/adolescent and how much information they are comfortable sharing. This is to ensure that they are able to access a safe and supportive counselling environment.

Please reach out at mali@thought-fullcounselling.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
This will depend on the availability of your counsellor and their current caseload. Your counsellor will let you know if there are expected wait times when sending you the intake forms. The sooner you are able to complete these the sooner you will be able to complete your first session. If you have an idea of a few times that you may be available when you make your initial contact this can help streamline your first appointment time.
No, your counsellor is not able to provide you with a diagnosis. This will need to be discussed with your GP. If you do not have a diagnosis but are requiring this, you will need to speak with your medical practitioner (GP). If your GP requires a support letter your counsellor is happy to provide this to them, with your consent.
Counsellors are not able to provide Medicare rebated sessions. If you have a Health Care Plan from your GP and wish to use this, you will need to access a Registered or Clinical Psychologist who is also registered with Medicare provisions. Health Care Plans from your GP allow for a 'gap fee' when seeing a Registered or Clinical Psychologist. This means that there will still be a fee applied. Psychologists that are able to provide Bulk-Billing Services may allow for no or limited fee options.
Thought-Full Counselling can provide counselling services for Plan-Managed and Self-Managed NDIS Participants. If you have either of these plans please let Thought-Full Counselling know so you can be sent an NDIS Service Agreement. If you have a Plan Manager or a Participant Representative that manages your funds (eg carer) they will need to complete the Service Agreement.
NDIA Managed- Currently Thought-Full Counselling is unable to provide services for NDIA Managed Participants however hopefully this service is coming soon!
No. You do not need a referral. If you do have one you are welcome to send this in.
You absolutely do not need to have a diagnosis to see a counsellor. Counselling is about providing support and working through challenges regardless of a diagnosis. If you have a diagnosis, it is also your choice if you wish to share this with your counsellor.
